The second largest inhabited island of Seychelles is Praslin and back in 1744, it was used as a hideaway by Arab merchants and pirates. There aren’t any pirates there now, but numerous tourists can be found lounging on the beaches or exploring the beauty of the island.
Anse Lazio is the most spectacular beach on the island and it has a fabulous coral reef to explore when out swimming or snorkeling in the water. Sitting on this beach is quite relaxing with the palm trees in the background and everyone will want to take their camera to capture a picture of the magnificent sunset at the end of the day. Anyone that is looking for a smaller beach that offers a little more quiet with fewer crowds, might want to consider visiting Anse Georgette or AnseVolbert.
Visitors can learn more about the history and culture of the island by stopping by the Praslin Museum. One of the exhibits displays endemic and medicinal plants that can be found on all the islands. A couple of the interactive activities include coconut dehusking and breadfruit grilling, and everyone will enjoy learning how the locals do all these traditional activities.
The rare coco de mer palm can only be found in only a couple of places in the world and one of them is within the Vallée de Mai on Praslin Island. The palm produces the largest nut in the world and each one weighs approximately eighteen kilograms. Once everyone has seen the infamous palms, they will want to look for the rare birds that live there, including the fruit pigeon, Seychelles bulbul, and the black parrot.
Golf lovers will find that the only true eighteen-hole golf course on the islands is on Praslin Island. The course can be found at the Constance Lemuria Resort on the northwest coast of the island, and it offers a challenge for any golfer with its water hazards, wide fairways, and elevated tees. The views are quite spectacular from any hole at this luxurious resort.
There is not much available for sightseeing on Praslin Island, yet there is still plenty of opportunities for people to be outside in nature. Visitors can explore Praslin National Park before venturing into the Vallée de Mai that can be found inside or they can simply walk around enjoying the island.
The beaches are the main focal point of this island though, and people will find themselves spending the majority of their days on the sand and in the water as they watch the marine life that lives nearby.
