First up is Glenburn Penthouse in Calcutta. This discreet and elegant hotel is located on the top floor of a high-rise building and has only 9 suites. It’s a true treasure! The rooftop pool offers stunning views of the Victoria Memorial and is the perfect spot for high tea. The Glenburn Penthouse is a delight in the details, with furniture, carpets, and window shutters inspired by the rich mansions of old Kolkata. The colors are light and airy, and all the rooms are very private. The food here is also outstanding!

Brunton Boatyard in Fort Kochi

The next boutique hotel is the Brunton Boatyard in Fort Kochi. This unique hotel is located in a historical shipyard on the waterfront and has been converted into a stately hotel. It proudly wears its history with about 25 elegant rooms overlooking a waterway. The Brunton Boatyard is known for serving the best seafood in Fort Kochi by the pool. The rich, enameled historical verandahs, the green inner courtyard, and accents will take your breath away.

Rohet House in Jodhpur

For friends and family getaways, the Rohet House in Jodhpur is a great option. With only 6 suites, this hotel is very aesthetically done and is located in the heart of the city. It features a classy pool, generous lawns, and stunning sit-outs. Rashmi Singh has designed and refurbished the old family house with so much love and attention to detail. Their sister property, Mihirgarh, is part of the same group and offers the same high service standards.

Killa Bhawan in Jaisalmer

If you’re looking for an exotic and unique experience, check out Killa Bhawan in Jaisalmer. This hotel is part of the fort itself and has rooms with small but historic walls. The romantic jharokhas with local Gaddis offer the best views of Jaisalmer. Killa Bhawan serves breakfast on one of the stunning terraces overlooking the city, but their kitchen is not big enough to cater for lunch or dinner. However, they are happy to suggest nearby restaurants.

Boutique Hotel Chospa in Leh

For a minimalist Scandinavian-style experience, check out the brand new boutique hotel Chospa in Leh. Located on the main road close to the Leh bazaar, the rooms are large, comfortable, and warm with simple, clean lines and shower cubicles with decent amenities. Two things we loved about Chospa were the massive art piece in the lobby showcasing local artist Jigmet Angmo and the lovely sit-out off the lobby with a big fire pit for perfect wintery night drinks.

Mantra Koodam - CGH Earth

If you’re in the Kumbakonam/Tanjore area of Tamil Nadu, be sure to check out the Mantra Koodam – CGH Earth. Spread over 14 acres of land, this resort features cute cottages with cool cobalt-blue local tiles and offers exquisite cuisine. The small rituals for welcome, departure, and everything in between are a nice touch. We cannot recommend the Mantra Koodam – CGH Earth enough! It was an amazing experience.

Svatma In Tajore

In the main city of Tanjore, very close to the UNESCO site of the Brihadeeshwara temple, you’ll find the Svatma hotel. This Relais Chateaux property is centered around a heritage house and is filled with restored artefacts and furniture that showcase the local architectural style.

Bari Kothi hotel in Murshidabad

Staying at the Bari Kothi hotel in Murshidabad will have the opportunity to experience local cuisine (Sheharwali), dive into the history of the region, and visit nearby monuments in Azamgarh. They can also take a sail down the Ganges for a sundowner and see the sustainable practices implemented by the hotel, including the integration of local people.
